Phone Walking Hazards

Walk aware, not absorbed in a screen.

Why This Habit Is Harmful

Walking while looking at a phone causes thousands of injuries yearly — trips, falls, collisions, and near-misses with traffic. Beyond safety, it wastes the cognitive reset that walking provides and trains you to be nowhere in particular, mentally or physically.

How to Break It

  • 1Put the phone in your pocket before you start walking.
  • 2Use audio navigation or calls only when stationary.
  • 3Practice a grounding habit: notice 3 things you see and hear.
  • 4Leave the phone behind for short walks when safe.
  • 5Tell yourself: "Walking is the activity; the phone is not."

Healthier Replacement

Use walks as thinking or listening time — a podcast is fine, but keep the screen away and your eyes up.
