Phone Habits
Phone During Study Breaks
Make breaks actually restorative, not draining.
Why This Habit Is Harmful
You intend a 5-minute break, grab the phone, and 40 minutes later return more depleted than rested. Phone breaks are cognitively active — they don’t restore attention the way movement or stillness do, so you study worse afterward.
How to Break It
- 1Use a timer for breaks and stop when it rings.
- 2Replace phone breaks with stretching or a walk.
- 3Keep the phone in a bag during study sessions.
- 4Try the "20-20-20" eye rest instead of scrolling.
- 5Pre-choose a non-screen break activity.
Healthier Replacement
On a break, stand, stretch, and look out a window for two minutes. True rest resets focus better than a feed.
