Focus Tips
Writer's Block
Break through the blank page when words will not come.
The Problem
You have a deadline and a blinking cursor. You know what you want to say in your head, but the moment you try to write it the words freeze. You rewrite the first sentence ten times, delete it, and stare. The page stays empty and panic grows.
Strategies to Overcome It
- 1Write the worst possible draft on purpose — you can edit garbage, you cannot edit nothing.
- 2Skip the introduction; write the middle or ending first, then circle back.
- 3Dictate your thoughts out loud using voice notes, then transcribe.
- 4Set a 5-minute free-write timer where grammar and quality do not count.
- 5Change your environment — a café, library, or different room can loosen the block.
Your 2-Minute Action
Set a timer for two minutes and type every thought about your topic without stopping to edit or judge. You now have raw material to shape.
