Focus Tips
Cannot Stay on Task
Build the muscle to remain with one job until it is done.
The Problem
You start a task with good intentions but wander off after a few minutes — to the kitchen, to a thought, to another tab. You rarely finish in one sitting and your days are a series of abandoned starts.
Strategies to Overcome It
- 1Use a visible timer so the end of the task is concrete.
- 2Write the task on a card and keep it in front of you.
- 3Remove the top three distractions from your workspace.
- 4Check in every 10 minutes: "Am I still on this?"
- 5Celebrate finishing one full task before starting another.
Your 2-Minute Action
Write your current task on a sticky note, place it on your screen, and work until it is complete before any other action.
